ABOUT US

OUR MISSION

To get a fantastic new concrete skatepark for Hayling Island.

Read on for the lowdown...

OLD PARK

NEW PARK

Our old and much loved skatepark on the seafront is falling apart. It won't be long before it's no longer safe to ride and some of the ramps may have to be removed.

The new skatepark will cost £200,000, so we need your help to raise money through crowdfunding as well as public grants and CIL funding.

We want a fantastic new concrete park to replace the old one, which will be safer, quieter, cheaper to maintain and more fun for everyone.

We want to engage all skatepark users, their families, local schools and businesses so we need your help.

ABOUT US

The Campaign

The need

The current skatepark was built in 1997 using steel & wood construction and although it was very popular initially, this old style wooden and metal ramps with tarmac ground has many disadvantages. It’s expensive to fix, gets damaged easily and if it’s just slightly wet it’s very slippery. It is also badly designed, with not many skating areas for younger kids and beginners.

Due to it’s position by the sea and a lack of maintenance over the years, many of the ramps have become badly corroded and will soon become unsafe to ride. Norse who manage the facility have explained that when this happens the ramps will need to be removed, which will make the skatepark unusable.

Many of us first learned to ride here over 20 years ago and bring our own kids to the skatepark to make friends and have fun. We benefited so much from this fantastic community facility, so we are determined to rebuild it for the next generation.

Our aim

Our aim is to replace the old skatepark with a fantastic new concrete skatepark, which will be quieter, safer and more fun for everyone.

We have set up a community action group to lead the campaign called The Hayling Skatepark Project and are working in partnership with Havant Borough Council, The Regeneration Team and many other local stakeholder groups.

We are a ragtag bunch, but with big hearts and big ambitions. We welcome anyone who wants to join us in organising events, meetings etc. We also encourage people to organise their own fundraising events.
